Amanada Gorman was born and raised in LA. She was raised by a single mother who worked as a middle school teacher. Amanda and her sisters had trouble with speech. Amanda had an auditory-processing disorder that made it hard to pronounce the letter r.She sought out to poetry as a way to express herself. She peformed her poem," The Hill We Climb" at the 2021 inauguration.
